[The Korea Industry Post, April 14, 2016]

Samsung Display, world biggest display panel maker is speeding up its move to convert its original large-size amorphous silicon thin film transistor, or called as a-Si TFT LCD facility to fabricate 8th generation Oxide TFT LCDs.

The move is part of Korean display panel maker’s effort to recover and maintain its supremacy in the global TV market.

Samsung Display is judged to be losing its competitiveness in large-sized display market, as the display maker is producing 5th generation Oxide TFT LCD while its rivals like Sharp Corporation and LG Display are already producing 8th generation Oxide TFT LCDs.

Samsung Display is producing its 5th generation Oxide TFT LCD in production facility called ‘L6’, which locates in Cheonan.

The display maker plans to wrap up with 5th generation Oxide TFT LCD facility until February of next year and start converting its 8th generation a-Si TFT LCD production line to 8th generation Oxide TFT LCD production line.
